The term "Psychiatry" was coined by Doctor J.C. Reil from Germany in 1808. Psychiatry is a science that studies and treats mental illnesses. Psychiatrists can treat a lot of mental illnesses. Psychiatrists work all over the globe. They help mentally ill people to handle depression, treat sleeplessness etc. There are many mental disorders and phobias that require specialist medical treatment. Among the common mental disorders are sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, abnormally high pressure moods, various personality disorders. One of the commonest mental disorders now is anorexia. It starts when a person stops eating or eats less to become slimmer. Eventually, starving brings on a compete loss of appetite and serious health problems, for instance infertility in females. SCHIZOPHRENIA is another serious mental disorder. It has been studied by psychiatrists for ages. People suffering from the mental disorder percept the reality differently. Bizarre delusions, abnormal speech, unarranged thinking pattern, paranoia are common for schizophrenic patients. Schizophrenic people usually suffer from severe depressions and anxiety disorders. Schizophrenic people have a much shorter lifespan than mentally healthy people. One of the reasons is a high suicidal rate among schizophrenics. Even though it is not hereditary, Schizophrenia is recorded to affect family members. Harmful substance abuse remains a common problem to be treated by psychiatrists. Social problems, for instance unemployment, poor living conditions and homelessness, are common, too. PSYCHIATRY treats mental disorders that are brought on chemical imbalances in the brain. The way people think, their beliefs, their culture and experience, life situations and many other things shape up their psyche that might be severely challenged due to circumstances. A professional is to revive the hampered balance through a specialist aid and prescription medicine. This process requires a lot of effort and time.
